Create and maintain a company with a diverse portfolio that is focused almost exclusively on small growers, especially ones who employ a non-interventionist approach in the vineyard and in the cellar, and who have a respect for their land and do not employ a lot of chemicals in their vineyards or tricks in their cellars. Run the company in a way that values its customers and shows it by providing excellent service with a knowledgeable and professional staff.
Be a good partner to our wineries and importers. By that I mean help the wineries realize their goals in our market and pay our bills in a timely manner.
Work with customers who also share our vision. I have always said that I want to influence the marketplace, not just follow it. We bring in wines at all price points in order to service the diverse needs of the market. We don’t shun the mainstream wine media, but we are also not afraid to introduce wines that have no reviews or scores.
Create an atmosphere of openness and congeniality in the office and among our staff. Foster a sense of community and shared benefit among our employees. I want everyone in the company to be pushing the wheel in the same direction, to feel they have a stake in the outcome, and to feel their work is valued both through acknowledgement of a job well done and by being paid a fair compensation.
Continue the company’s growth; however this growth must be sustainable, i.e. without undue financial stress to the business. And it must also be done without compromising the company’s vision.
